FNSKU, UPC and carton labels are different
Retail product ID
UPC, EAN, ISBN or another product identifier connects the listing to a catalog product. It is not automatically the label Amazon wants on every FBA unit.
FNSKU / Amazon barcode
The FBA unit label identifies the seller-specific inventory unit when Amazon requires an Amazon barcode.
Box and shipping labels
Carton labels and carrier labels identify the inbound shipment and boxes. They do not replace sellable-unit labels.

Common mistakes that delay FBA receiving
- Printing unit labels before the SKU, barcode setting or shipment plan is final.
- Leaving UPC or EAN barcodes exposed when Amazon requires an FBA unit label.
- Using carton labels as if they were unit labels.
- Changing carton counts after box labels are generated.
- Skipping prep photos for poly bags, sets, liquids, batteries or expiration-dated goods.
- Letting the supplier ship before box content data matches the packing list.

FNSKU labeling and FBA prep FAQ
Do all FBA units need an FNSKU label?
No. Some SKUs can use manufacturer barcodes, while others require an Amazon barcode. Check Seller Central or Amazon prep instructions for each SKU before printing labels.
What changed for FBA prep and item labeling in the US in 2026?
Amazon announced that US FBA prep and item-labeling services would no longer be available starting January 1, 2026, so sellers need their own supplier, prep partner or forwarder workflow for labels and prep.
Should the China supplier apply FNSKU labels?
The supplier can apply labels if they receive final label PDFs, clear placement instructions and SKU mapping. Sellers should request photo proof before pickup.
Do FNSKU labels replace FBA box labels?
No. FNSKU or FBA unit labels identify sellable units. FBA box labels identify cartons in the inbound shipment and are still needed where Seller Central requires them.
